*Screened in Porch*

On this project our customer had just purchased a new home and wanted to screen in an existing porch.

To accommodate two screen doors and the screening we had to install some additional framing and porch posts. (photo2)

The porch posts where essentially 4x4 treated posts trimmed with 1X6 pine and painted. We attached the base of the post in a bracket that we attached with concrete fasteners.

With a hammer drill and masonry bit we drilled into the concrete and inserted the plastic sleeves, the brackets were then attached with stainless steel screws. The top of the post was attached to the top of the porch in the same manner.

We framed out the bottom, top and middle with 2x4 studs to be able to attach the screens securely. The screen doors were attached to the porch posts with special self closes hinges. (photo 6)

The 1x6 trim was attached to the posts with 2" stainless finish nails. (I recommend stainless fasteners for outdoor use!)

The screening was cut to size for each opening and stapled to the porch posts and 2x4 framing. One inch lattice was installed over all seams and staples to add additional strength and to have a nice finished look.
