*Question & Answer Vinyl Siding*Dear
Bob Dear
MO
Dear Bob We want to install vinyl siding on our home, however a large portion of the siding of our house is masonry and brick. Is it possible to install vinyl over these surfaces? Dear RT You certainly can install vinyl siding over a masonry sub surface. I suggest 1x3 furring strips installed over the masonry surface with construction adhesive and masonry nails. They should be installed completely around doors, windows and other openings, at all corners, and at the top and bottom of the area to be sided. Strips should be nailed horizontally to structural lumber, etc., on 12" to 16" centers. Furred siding should be covered with insulated sheeting or the spaces between the furring strips should be filled in with insulated sheeting equal in thickness to the furring strips. This will provide an even wall surface for the siding and help avoid any waviness.
